his opponent has received from unions, nancy pelosi and other congressional democrats. >> the first commercial district, really goes to the heart of what does pelohse or others want in congress. >> reporter: cobetter bush, long time maritime shipping executive and sister of comedian stephen cobert insists her values are the same as the conservative ones. >> no one tells me what to do except for them period. >> reporter: but this is attracting national attention. the justice department is conducting what it calls routine poll monitoring under the 1965 voting rights act. this is the first general election since south carolina's new voteding id took effect. if co she wins, it would be difficult for another democrat to win. and if sanford wins, he may have to mend fence's with members of his own political party who may still regard him as a liability. >> jonathan serrie from charleston, thank you. we'll have the results as soon as we get them on fox. >>> another student, another play-time and another suspension. to make your shake your head, next in the grapevine. >>> not even bill clin

. >> the anecdotal evidence is it turned around last week. he made it clear nancy pelosi was trying to spend $1 million-plus in the district to take it away. and also it turned out that colbert busch, the democratic candidate, turned out to be weaker than thought z clammed up, disappeared, refused to talk about the issues. she eventually put herself out on the campaign trail by a four day bus trip but by that point people thought she was probably not up to the job. >> she was running from congressional democrats. is this a things to come in 2014? >> probably not. remember, this is a very republican district. mitt romney won it by 18 points. mark sanford won it by half that margin. there was a negative impact of his, you know, of his misdeeds in the past, his relationship with an argentine woman and misleading people where he was, he was on the appalachian trail. all of that hurt him. but she knew the only way she had a shot was to portray herself as an independent, moderate, conservative democrat, but sort of hard when your brother is stephen colbert. and they have a lot of members in their fam

and senate and if you look at the house's record with nancy pelosi as our last speaker, this time around there's not much getting done. so i think the country is ready for it. and we're definitely looking forward to seeing what secretary clinton decides to do. >> patricia, the country is ready for it, it seems, look at new polls. 90% of voters in battleground states would vote for a qualified women candidate from their party. 86% say america's ready to elect a woman president. 72% believe it's likely in the next presidential election. 72%. is this just another sign that the country wants hillary clinton to run, patricia? >> well, i think it's hard to ask a hypothetical question about a woman running for president in the next four years and not assume that we're all talking about hillary clinton. there is nobody else on the horizon like her. she's a celebrity, yes, but she's also a transformative figure and she's such a much better candidate than 2008. democrats want her to run. i've talked to a lot of democrats about this. nobody will join another campaign. nobody will give a dollar. thi

. he was addressing it to nancy pelosi. "still think i'm not on team america for thinking the sequester was a home run. america did fine. we can survive spending." but look at this report from this very same congressman's own district, the damage to a local head start program, it's from this week in his district. >> tomorrow will be the last day of work here at head start and the last day of school for some students. but the sequester cuts take effect wednesday, eliminating at least students from head start. >> congress, this is your colleague, republican congress pompeo home district that they are closing because of the sequester, they are closing down head start. so at one point we are gaining a new job and communities survive and those programs affected by the sequester. we are hurting and they are acting like it's all right. and we are doing fine. >> we are not doing fine. and right now the sequester is not balanced. sure, we're taking money out of the budget but at the same time there's no new revenue coming in. that's a balanced approach, the president said he wanted it. i think t

've had a v8. in the juice aisle. >>> last night after a long campaign featuring endless mentions of nancy pelosi, mark sanford deleted elizabeth colbert-bush. >> well, better a serial adulterer who went awol from his last government job than a democrat in that district, alex. i think that's all we can conclude. >> that's our take away. >> i think the early polling had some issue, overestimating the turnout. he was always going to win this. >>> a redemption story you can feel good about? >> you can feel okay about, because after all, compared to, say, an anthony weiner situation or frankly even eliot spitzer sitization, people have affairs all the time, they get over them and, yeah, in terms of, you know, raising the average i.q. of the house caucus by a point on two, he'll be good. it's a low bar glen thrush. we have to leave it there. thank you to all. luke russert is in for me tomorrow, so stay tuned on this channel. "andrea mitchell reports" is coming up next. .. and that much freshness is gonna take some getting used to... [ sniffing ] yep. it's amazing what a single scoop of gain fre

ads with nancy pelosi and interested others pouring into the campaign. a lot of people were talking to friends and neighbors, and you know, i told folks, look, we can't keep up with the number of ads, but it's enough friends talk to enough friends it could make a difference in this race. i think it has. whether or not it could be enough come tonight we'll find out. >> finally, can you pledge to the voters here in this district that if you are elected tonight and you go to washington that you'll never again betray the public trust? >> yeah. well, let's be clear, though, i don't know that it's betray the public trust. >> you don't feel like you did? >> it's a much longer conversation. we'll come back to that, but we can debate that at noefr day. i absolutely failed, period, and a number of taxpayers have said you never failed me once in the way you advocated the public policy. the thing i can say is i totally failed, and our minister gave a great sermon a number of weeks back on do the events of your life refine or define your life. i think the political opponents or people in life wi
